Anders Cohen Performs ALIF To Treat Spinal Problems

Anders Cohen, one of America’s foremost spine surgeons, performs the anterior lumbar interbody fusion or ALIF surgical technique to help people suffering from any one of several spinal conditions.

A proven solution for such conditions as scoliosis, kyphosis and spondylolisthesis, ALIF can be used to stabilize the spine, and treat broken vertebrae as well. In summary, ALIF consists of two distinct phases. First, Dr. Cohen gains access to the spinal regions needing treatment either by making an abdominal incision and retracting all the organs, or in the less invasive version, by making a smaller incision then using endoscopes and other instruments to proceed to the area.

In the next step, Anders Cohen removes the damaged parts of the disc or discs, and then implants a bone graft or graft substitute to aid healing. If performing the open-spine version, Dr. Cohen returns the organs to their places, then closing the incision.
