Currently the Head of the neurosurgery and spine surgery unit of Brooklyn Hospital Center, Dr. Cohen is an expert surgeon with a remarkable curriculum vitae. He became a member of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York since 1993 as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). In addition, he held the post of Chief Intern at the Massapequa General Hospital in 1997, then went on to become Chief Resident for Neurosurgery at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center – North Shore University Hospital, in 2002 to 2003. He also underwent fellowship training in pediatric surgery.

These days, when he is not in the Brooklyn Hospital Center or the St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, Dr. Cohen may be found teaching future neurosurgeons at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, where he serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurological Surgery. He is also a frequent lecturer in a number of local and international conventions for neurosurgeons.

Dr. Cohen is especially recognized for popularizing new treatment methods to a host of neurological conditions, including nerve diseases, cerebral or spinal cancer, coccydynia, degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis. Among New York’s circle of neurosurgeons, in particular, he is known as the first to perform the AxiaLIF or lateral interbody fusion (LIF), XLIF (Trans1) and dynamic rod techniques.
